Google reveals support plans for Pixel and Nexus phones via official support page

It is a common practice to discontinue a phone after certain period of time to make room for new devices. Every manufacturer/ ORM does the same! Google is no exception to this process. In the past they have rulled out old Nexus phones so that they could focus on implementing new technology in the latest phones. Now Google has revealed it’s support plans for Pixel and Nexus phones in an official support page update.

Google, while launching Nexus and Pixel phones, had confirmed that these phones will get 2 years of Android updates and 3 years of Security patches support from the search giants. Sticking to their words Google has revealed support plans for Pixel and Nexus phones.

According to the recent support page update Google will stop giving Android Is updates first and then, after a year, Pixel and Nexus phones will stop getting necessary Security Patches.

If you still own a Nexus 6 or a 9, you will only get security updates till October of this year. After that you won’t receive anything from Google.

Google’s last Nexus lineup phones, Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X will get Android updates till September this year and will stop getting security updates a year after that. Which means Nexus 6P users will get updated only up to Android O. No one should expect more than that from Google.

Pixel users have one more year in this bank! Pixel and Pixel XL phones will get Android updates til October 2018 and then will stop receiving security updates a year later in October 2019.

Once Google stops giving security updates you won’t be able to avail Google’s customer service and complain about issues.

If you own a Nexus or a Pixel phone you know when to upgrade from your existing phone to a latest one!
