As we know, Google desperately wants to bring the next version of Android 8 – Android 8.1, by the end of the year. While rolling out the first developer preview version of Android 8.1, they had promised to bring one more developer preview before launching fully furbished Android 8.1. The Android 8.1 Developer Preview 2 is now available for Google’s premium devices- Pixel and Nexus (selected).
The last version of Developer preview had a few hiccups. Full system images couldn’t flash on Pixel 2 due to lack of the new version of the Developer preview which was not yet available for the early developers. The previous version had difficulties with Google’s custom SoC on Pixel 2 devices. Hope this version gets it straight to the Pixel 2 devices.
To download and get started with Android 8.1 Developer preview, you first need to enroll into Google’s Android Beta Program. After that you will receive and Over-the-air (OTA) notification about the availability of the new version. Download and install the latest version and you are good to go!
Just a warning though, this is a beta version, and thus, it will have some minor bugs or issues. It might damage your phone (though chances are very slim). Therefore proceed with caution. You can disenroll from the Android Beta Program. Doing so will bring you back to the latest version of Android your device supports.
